LUNGS AND ITS PROTECTION IN ANCIENT AYURVEDA MEDICINE : MY EXPERIENCES
Ayurveda considers whole body as a composite, compared to functioning of systems. The interruptions in food habits and living differentiates the body's natural resistance to the circumstances.
The lungs contain many different types of cells. Most cells in the lung are epithelial cells. Epithelial cells line the airways and make mucus, which lubricates and protects the lung. The lung also contains nerve cells, hormone-producing cells, blood cells, and structural or supporting cells. The pulmonary endothelium forms a single layer of mesenchyme-derived and non-fenestrated endothelial cells. This serves as a semipermeable barrier separating the pulmonary circulation from the lung interstitium, regulating macromolecule, nutrient, leucocyte and fluid transfer.
Endothelial dysfunction is characterized by alterations in endothelium regulating functions, resulting in imbalanced production of relaxing and contracting factors, pro-coagulant and anticoagulant mediators or growth inhibiting and promoting substances. Physiopathological mechanisms that lead to endothelial dysfunction or reduced EDRF/increased EDCF include risk factors for cardiovascular diseases such as hypercholesterolemia, tobacco use, insulin resistance, hyperglycaemia. Reduced production and/or bioavailability of NO is considered the central mechanism responsible for endothelial dysfunction. Clinically, endothelial dysfunction syndrome can be evidenced by local or general vasospasm, or thrombosis, and is associated with the development of atherosclerosis and restenosis, and vascular complications associated with several cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Most texts regarding endothelial dysfunction focus on the altered release of endothelial vasoactive substances, without considering vasoplegic conditions caused by increased release of vasorelaxing factors.
The studies suggest that, the presence of SARS-CoV-2 virus within endothelial cells suggests that direct viral effects, as well as perivascular inflammation, may contribute to endothelial cell injury. It is likely that endotheliitis, endothelial injury, endothelial cell dysfunction and impaired microcirculatory function in different vascular beds contributes markedly to life-threatening complications of COVID-19, such as venous thromboembolic disease and multiple organ involvement.
My Experience:
In my experience, I have treated many cases of emphysematous lung conditions. Chronic obstructive airway diseases., allergic asthma, etc. All recovered with in 3-6 months of treatment and many did not get any symptoms for more than 15 years. According to ancient Ayurveda, all body functions depend on agni or digestive power, balance of excretion of unwanted things during development of body and its utilisation. The cellular activities depend on agni principle to maintain its integrity. So, proper foods, daily activities, seasonal activities, place of living all included in treatment or maintaining health. Improper or opposite quality foods in Ayurveda clearly defines that certain diet and its combinations, which interrupts the metabolism of tissue, which inhibits the process of formation of tissue and which have the opposite property to the tissue are called as Viruddha Ahara or incompatible diet. So, irrespective of taking rich vitaminous food, its the digestive, absorb-able, and cellular integrity plays the role in body mechanisms of integrated development and functions of the body. as said in Ayurveda; the ancient medicine.
